How to cover up water stains on a plaster ceiling

Water stains on ceilings is a very common problem often caused by a plumbing leaks. Before you begin to conceal the stain first make sure that the source of the leak has been fixed and the stain has had time to dry after the fix. 

Step 1 Prepare the room

Move and furniture that is directly in the way of the the work area. Lay a drop cloth along the floor directly under the stain and cover any remaining surfaces in the area. 

Step 2 Clean with bleach mixture 

Make sure you have the proper protections while handling bleach. Wear goggles, a respirator and rubber gloves. Mix a solution of half bleach and half water into a container and lightly apply the solution to the stain with a sponge. This will eliminate any remains mildew within the stain. Let the solution soak into the stain for about 15 minutes then wipe away and remaining bleach from the stain. 

Step 3 Paint and finish

Blot the stain dry with a dry rag and allow the stain to air dry for also g as is necessary. Once the stain is dry apply a coat of oil based primer to the stain. Once the primer has dried you make coat the ceiling with your ceiling paint.
